Courtney Grant Photography has some exciting news!

I vividly remember sitting on the couch with my mom, and probably my at-the-time 90lb yellow lab lap dog, Tucker, saying I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. I loved kids and I was working at a daycare at the time, but for some reason that didn’t feel like forever to me. Our conversation went something like..

“Why don’t you go to school for photography?”
“Because that’s not a real job, mom”

And that was the end of it.

So I went back to school that following week, and in the midst of trying to figure out my life, God stepped in. That year, I had taken a few photo sessions at the time and I was still getting familiar with my camera and by zero means a “pro.” I’m pretty sure it was a text or Facebook message inquiry I received later that week from my high school friend, Chelsea. She and Michael were having a small backyard wedding and wanted to know my pricing for weddings. Uhh – pricing? I can charge for this? Do I even know what I’m doing? I had no website, no business cards, nothing but a camera. But she had faith in me, and I suddenly had faith in me too.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

This was in 2011. Between family portraits, engagements, newborns and weddings, I’ve now shot 300+ sessions.

This has always been my dream.

I had always said I wanted to go full time with photography when the time came to have kids and I needed a flexible schedule. But then I unexpectedly fell in love with my 9-5 career. What went from being a receptionist for a marketing agency turned into teaching myself website design and eventually leading a team of designers to create amazing work for our company. I completely fell in love with problem solving and design, and my photography career, although it remained, got pushed to the back burner for the past 4 years.

In June of this past year I accepted another job at a new creative agency. Finding balance between a growing photography business and giving 100% at my 9-5 was impossible, and I felt like I couldn’t give either side my undivided attention. So I’d beg God to give me a sign. And he did. I went to bed one night like I always do, probably scrolling Pinterest until my eyes closed. But the way I felt when I woke up was completely different. I felt this huge push to pursue my dreams and the fear I had before about going full time had turned to calmness.

I put in my notice that morning, booked two family sessions by noon, and had 3 wedding inquires for my highest package that night.

In all things, trust His timing, y’all.

Going full time is going to allow me to serve my families and couples to a whole new level. Along with full time hours, I’m offering two new services: Mentorships (which you can read all about here) and lifestyle newborn photography! I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and all of my past families and couples who have witnessed my journey from the beginning. From the bottom of my heart I have to thank my friends and family that have always encouraged me and cheered me on from the sidelines in every season, especially this past year. I am so excited to see where this hobby turned passion takes me!
