Hayden Grace Grant joined our family on September 4, 2019!

If you’ve been MIA – let me fill you in. I have been pregnant for what feels like an eternity (You can watch the super cute announcement video HERE!) BUT – we finally have welcomed our sweet GIRL into the world and we could not be more thrilled! As many of you know, we waited to find out the gender of our baby. We always just prayed for a happy and healthy baby – their gender was the least of our concerns. Plus, what a fun surprise to end our pregnancy! ..but we did have a little God wink towards the end that kept us wondering..

In my third trimester I had only one scare, thank goodness, but it did send us to the hospital in the middle of the night (as if rushing there in daylight isn’t scary enough.) Luckily we were the only patients there on the triage floor so we were helped right away. I had always felt the baby move a good portion of the day, either kicks or hiccups, but this day was different. The baby had been so still for a majority of the day and it was such a scary feeling. The nurse poked and turned me every which way, but baby wouldn’t move.

She suggested we play some music for the baby. I’m thinking “I just drank an entire coke and that did nothing, what’s music going to do??” So, Kyle turns on Spotify and picks a random playlist as soon as possible. Uptown Girl comes on, and sure enough, baby is kicking like crazy! From that moment on I wondered.. and sure enough, our little uptown girl she was!

She was in absolutely no hurry to come into this world, so at 9 days past due date we were sent for induction. I had known there was a possibility of her coming late, but boy by 9 days past, I was SO emotionally drained and being induced really scared me. We went in at 8pm and I was given a 12 hour medicine that would “work” overnight. I’m sure the nurse wondered how in the world I would give birth to a child seeing as how I almost passed out getting my hand IV!!! I watched the clock tick so slowly until the next morning when a new nurse came in and stated the medicine had kinda worked… but only kinda.

Our options were to do another round of that medicine, or take a break a start a 4 hour medicine that we’d potentially have to do 3 times (so another 12 hours either way!) I was so upset, so we decided to take a break since I hadn’t eaten in 12+ hours. We ate, walked the halls, and got showers, then we prepared ourselves to start all over. Thankfully, the 4 hour medicine got things moving and I didn’t need any additional doses. Once things started moving – they moved SO fast!

Our parents arrived and shortly after I was told it was time to push. Less than an hour later she was in my arms. Giving birth was the most amazing experience of my life. I reflected on my entire pregnancy and how long we’d waited to see this baby’s face and hold their hands and kiss their toes. I’ve never felt so powerful and proud of my body.

I didn’t have any crazy 5 page birth plan. My only request for my birth was to have Kyle tell me the gender of our baby. So I kept my eyes closed for a majority of the birth, until I knew she was close to being put on my chest. I will never forget Kyle leaning over me and saying “It’s a beautiful baby girl!” All we could do was hold each other and stare at her – she was perfect in every way!

It’s been 8 weeks of pure sweetness, and some LONG nights, but we could not be more in love with this girl. I can’t believe it was her all along. I look back at photos and videos of her kicking and just think of the sweet miracle she is. Towards the end of my pregnancy I decided I wanted to have a birth photographer to capture our raw emotions and I am so thankful we had Natalie Myers Photography capture Hayden’s birth!
